From adolescence through post-menopause, the Atrius Health Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology is committed to helping women be and stay healthy through every stage of their lives. From general gynecology to a full range of obstetrical care to complex women’s health issues, our outstanding physicians, certified nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses and medical support teams work together to provide compassionate, personal care to each woman we see.
We understand that every woman’s needs and goals for pregnancy, labor, and delivery are very different. As such, our obstetrical care teams listen carefully and strive to provide the experience each of our pregnant patients seeks. Where a woman delivers her baby can also be an important personal choice, so we have partnered with and deliver at several outstanding hospitals in Boston and the surrounding communities: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Mount Auburn Hospital, Newton-Wellesley Hospital, Lowell General Hospital, South Shore Hospital and Winchester Hospital.
Additionally, we can offer a woman the choice to receive care from a certified nurse-midwife who works in collaboration with our OB physicians. Our midwives attend births at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Newton-Wellesley Hospital, and South Shore Hospital. They also offer pre- and post-natal care, ongoing health education, and routine gynecological services. People sometimes use the term “midwife” to refer to all types of midwives, which can cause some confusion about the care nurse-midwives can provide. If you’re considering receiving your care from a nurse-midwife or would like to learn more about nurse-midwives, our “Myths of Nurse-Midwifery” article may help.
Should a woman be considered “high-risk” for pregnancy or if she develops a complication during her pregnancy, our specialists in our Maternal Fetal Medicine Program can provide screening, monitoring and counseling services before and during pregnancy to assess and manage risk, as well as provide needed care or treatment.
In addition to obstetrics, we offer gynecology at 15 of our convenient office locations. Our services include routine gynecological care, including Pap smears, breast exams, mammography, contraceptive counseling and other preventive screenings.
Additionally, we offer many other comprehensive gynecological services including Fertility and Reproductive Health, Urogynecology, and the Vulvovaginal Service.
